Six steps to partner with diverse families is a two page article from the January February issue of Principal, pp 46-47, and is directed at school principals.
From page 46: ” if teachers approach families with cultural responsiveness, they will select actions that value difference and support cross-cultural communication.”
The authors discuss the following key concepts and strategies:
- set the expectation for teacher leadership
- learn about the child, family and community
- acknowledge a shared commitment
- embrace a strengths-based perspective
- forge trust
- encourage reciprocal communication

Visual Voice for Diverse Learners is the title of an article in the January/February 2017 issue of Principal, pp 28-31.
From page 29: “A strategy to bridge communications gaps and increase students achievement is encouraging learners to make their thinking visible through art. Art-integrated education is a cross -curricular way to engage with the arts to build knowledge and competency in reading, math, science, social studies, art, and other subjects.
