Ontario history students perform best in national survey

Reported by various media organizations, Historica Canada has released the results of a Canadian History Report Card.

From a quick search and observation, Louise Brown has written the most comprehensive summary in the Toronto Star Saturday, January 23 206,  titled  Ontario lauded for high school history curriculum.

From Brown’s report:

“This report card looked at history curriculum from Grades 4 to 12 to see how well it balances the teaching of timelines with deeper themes like diversity, gender, aboriginal peoples and national identity — and from a range of perspectives, from global to local, social to national.

It also measures how well each province teaches students to think about history using the six “historical thinking concepts” that have to do with historical significance, considering evidence, examining continuity and change, cause and consequence, looking at broader historical perspectives and the ethical dimension.”

Ontario students scored the highest with an 82%. The lowest was Alberta with 62%

As of this minute, I have not been able to find the 2015/2106 report on the Historica Canada site – please let me know where it is!  I have either totally missed it, or it hasn’t been released yet.  Here is the link to the 2009 edition.

Check it out and when I receive the link to the new document, I will let you know.
