Classroom strategies for ADHD students

The Ontario College of Teachers has released the December 2015 issue of Professionally Speaking, and one  article written by John Hoffman is titled ADHD Now.  This articles offers classroom strategies based on cognitive skills and not behavioral issues.

Supporting Executive Functions:

  • minimize distractions
  • increase physical activities
  • reduce stress and anxiety
  • use timers

Supporting Cognitive Load (level of demand that mental activities place on working memory)

  • implement scaffolding
  • chunking
  • modify instructions
  • use visual aids
