2 new Ministry documents
Have I mentioned how much I hate the Ministry of Education Web page? Try to find new curriculum documents!
Anyhoo, there are two revised curriculum documents: Computer Studies (2008, grades 10-12) and Science (2008, grades 9-10).

New books that make you think
Some books are hard to classify when they break the subject mould. Sometimes they don’t apply to any one thing; sometimes they apply to all. Sometimes, they make you think and reflect on ideas and practices; sometimes they light a fire and motivate you to change. Here are a few new titles like that:
Everyday Greatness by Stephen Covey (if you like 7 Habits, then you’ll like this);
Teaching Smarter with the Brain in Focus (applying brain research to improve student success);
Super Teaching by Eric Jensen (4th ed, 2009, more brain stuff by one of the brain/education gurus);
Communities that Learn, Lead and Last (professional learning communities);
Disrupting Class: How Disruptive innovation will Change the Way the World Learns by Clayton Christensen (examines the disconnect between educational outcomes and what we have – from an American perspective);
Finally, another book about boys – The Trouble with Boys: A Suprising Report Card on our Sons, Their Problems at Schools and what Parents and Educators Must Do by Peg Tyre.
Call (416) 395-8289 to borrow.
