Writing and Dance Moves – New Books
Those new books kept coming while I was on holiday, too many to mention. Here are a some of the more fun titles:
Dance: Rythmic Activities and Dance (2nd ed by John Price Bennett and Pamela Coughenour Riemer); Interdisciplinary Learning Through Dance 101 MOVEntures (by Overby, Post and Newman).
Writing: Cursive Writing Activities (Grades 3-4, from Teacher Created Resources); Graphic Organizers & Strategy Sheets That Scaffold Writing from Paragraphs to Essays(Grades 4-8, by Anina Robb); What’s Next for the Beginning Writer? Mini lessons that take writing from scribbles to script(by Janine Reid, Betty Schultze and Ulla Peterson); But How do You Teach Writing? A simple guide for all teachers (by Barry Lane).
From a library collections perspective, writing is becoming the new reading. What with the EQAO, the emphasis on reading has been gi-normous (we have rows of shelves devoted to teaching reading). I guess that now they figure that reading is improving so now it is time to work on the writing.
Happy reading, writing and dancing,
Rowan

The vacation is over
Here I am, returned from vacation, still trying to jump start my brain. We had a busy 2 weeks in early July as teachers took AQ courses, and still the phone rings as teachers complete courses and prep for this September which is very rapidly approaching – like only 3 and a half weeks from now (an early Labour Day will do that). During the next 3 weeks the Library will have booths to display our books and promote our services at different events, like at the beginning teacher and summer institutes. See you there,
Rowan
