ABA Applied Behaviour Analysis

Min of Ed PPM #140 memo provides direction to school boards regarding the use of ABA with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).  The Professional Library has scads of articles and books on teaching students with autism, some more medical in nature, but many with practical classroom strategies.  PPM 140 also includes 2 book references: Applied Behaviour Analysis for Teachers(Alberto and Troutman, 2006) and Applied Behavior Analysis(Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2nd ed, 2006). Black Focused Schools

The issues surrounding Africentric or Black focused schools have received a lot of media attention as TDSB has been holding public meetings to discuss  the implementation of such a program in Toronto.  The Professional Library has created an annotated bibliography of resources . This is not a comprehensive list as it is limited to 2000-2007 materials; it only includes materials from our library (plus a few Internet links); and it focuses on the school aspect and not others issues like socioeconomic or cultural.

Also,  from the TDSB web page  … the TDSB is hosting two Black Community Education Forums in December to provide opportunities for parents, community members and youth to present their ideas and proposals about Black student success.

Participants will speak before an esteemed educational panel made up of TDSB trustees, Director Gerry Connelly, and other senior education officials at the school board. The first of the two forums takes place on December 1 at Northview Heights SS, with a second forum scheduled for Saturday December 8 at Winston Churchill CI.  You need to register.
